*privilege*

 At 23 and 28,

my parents packed their bags.

They carried with them a few key belongings,

and hope in their hearts

for a better life for themselves and their daughter.

They would soon learn

even the land of opportunity 

has broken promises. 

Despite the hardships, 

I am determined to rise 

and make a change; 

such that those who decide to come build a future

will not be denied their

basic human rights.
